Hmm. Here's a sequel to the Skype Lie detector test. Apparently this software, which is still in development, can catch people in their lies written in email. It examines patterns in language - such as length and types of phrases and words used or avoided. While this software could be used in checking emails from "sick" employees, or emails from cheating girlfriends or boyfriends, I wonder how useful this would be in email correspondence and even resumes and cover letters from job applicants. I doubt the indicators used by the software would be applicable in CV forms - but who knows?? I still think the best way to call out the liars is through thorough questioning and asking for evidence - basically clear examples of performance, references and background checks.
